This week, I worked on an assignment for a proposed construction of a 2,900sf living area range with a very unique Cape Cod or American Craftsman “look” for the French / Country French / Acadian dominated Baton Rouge housing market. While driving this new development, I noticed some traditional and then some not so common styles for Baton Rouge Real Estate, see the second collage image below. If you’re building a custom home that you plan on living in forever, build what you want.  The styles currently in this development are acceptable to the Baton Rouge Home Buyer’s Taste, however, I would caution on choosing a home style that’s not at all common to our market just to be different, IF the goal is to sell the home in the next few years. Odd looking homes in the Baton Rouge market tend to remain on the market longer and sell for less.  Also, typically homes in 2900sf range have 4 bedrooms, not just 3 bedrooms.  Again, this is mentioned for future resale purposes.
